Glarus is a small Alpine canton of 40,000 inhabitants, famous for its Landsgemeinde and democratic innovations (voting age 16 since 2006, reduced to 3 municipalities in 2011).

Glarus requires 2 years of cantonal and municipal residence. German (B1) is required. Since 2011 there are only 3 municipalities.
