Schwyz requires 2 years of cantonal and municipal residence. German (B1) is required. Municipal hearings strongly emphasize knowledge of Swiss founding history.
Civics exam
Covers federal and cantonal institutions, founding history (Rütli oath, 1291 Federal Charter, William Tell legend) and Alpine geography.
Procedure and timelines
File at the municipality, then the Migration Office. Expect 12 to 24 months.
